Replendish vs Pet Cafe: Choosing a Pet Water Dispenser

Quick answer

Choose the Petmate Replendish if you want filtered water with Microban antimicrobial protection and don't mind replacing charcoal filters. Choose the Pet Cafe if you prefer a simple, filter-free gravity waterer that's easy to clean and refill.

Filtration and antimicrobial protection: what they do and don't cover

The Replendish uses a charcoal filter to remove impurities from water as it flows from the bottle to the bowl. It also incorporates Microban antimicrobial protection in the product to help prevent the growth of stain and odor-causing bacteria. These features add a layer of freshness, but they don't eliminate the need for regular washing—you'll still need to clean the bowl and bottle periodically.

The Pet Cafe has no filter or antimicrobial additive. Its simplicity means fewer parts to maintain, but water quality depends entirely on how often you change the water and clean the reservoir.

Cleaning and maintenance: filters vs. no filters

The Replendish requires you to replace the charcoal filter regularly (typically every few weeks, depending on use) to maintain effectiveness. The bottle and base should also be washed by hand. The Pet Cafe's large water dispensing hole makes the bottle easy to clean, and there are no filters to buy or replace. If you want the lowest-maintenance option, the Pet Cafe wins; if you value filtration, the Replendish is worth the extra upkeep.

Capacity and size options: matching your household

Both waterers come in multiple sizes, so you can choose based on how many pets you have and how often you want to refill. A larger capacity means fewer refills but also more water sitting out; a smaller capacity stays fresher but requires more frequent topping off. Consider your pets' daily water intake and your routine—if you're away for long hours, a larger size may be more convenient.

The Pet Cafe's gravity design automatically refills the reservoir as your pet drinks, and the Replendish works similarly with the added filtration step. Neither requires electricity, so placement is flexible.

Decision rules: which waterer fits your routine

• If you want filtered water and antimicrobial protection: Choose the Replendish. It's ideal for pet owners who prioritize water purity and don't mind buying replacement filters. Check the filter replacement schedule and budget for ongoing filter costs.
• If you prefer low maintenance and no filters: Choose the Pet Cafe. Its simple gravity design and easy-clean bottle make it a hassle-free option. Plan to clean the bowl and bottle more frequently since there's no filter to help maintain freshness.
• If you have multiple pets or are away often: Pick a larger size in either model to reduce refill frequency. Both offer multiple size options. Measure your pet's daily water consumption to choose the right capacity.
